Treatment Of Dry Eyes

Ayurvedic treatment of dry eyes is aimed to correct the balance of doshas. The underlying cause of imbalance is found out and treated accordingly.

The objectives of ayurveda treatment for Dry Eyes are :

  • To correct the vitiation of vata dosha in body and in the eyes also.
  • To relieve the symptoms of dry eyes.
  • To correct the digestive fire and promote lubrication in whole body.

The different stages of ayurvedic treatment for Dry Eyes are also as follows :

  • Snehapana : Snehapana is consumption of heavy dose of medicated ghee. Suitable medicated ghee is selected and snehapana is given to the patient considering his digestive fire. Aam Pachan can be done before snehapana by suitable pachak drugs. Duration of snehapana is 3 to 7 days depending on one’s body nature.
  • Abhyanga & Swedan : External oleation and sudation is also done along with internal lubrication process.
  • Virechana : After proper lubrication of body with ghee and oil, preferably a sneha virechana is given to remove the toxins of body. In this condition, patient gets loose motion for one day and hence the desired detoxification of whole body is achieved.
  • Nasya : Once virechana treatment is over, then shodhan nasya(nasal administration of medicated oil)
    is given by following the basic principles of Ayurveda. By this process, detoxification of above the neck organs is achieved.
  • Ayurvedic eye treatments like Nethradhara, Shirodhara, Kizhi sweda, Anjana, Aschotana and lastly Netra Tharpana is done to rejuvenate the metabolic system of eye. These procedures are strictly done under the supervision of ayurvedic eye specialist so that if any complication arises, a suitable step can be taken to remove the same.
  • Internal Herbal Medicines along with Ayurvedic eye drops for dry eyes are also taken for a longer duration of time for permanent cure of dry eyes. Life style modifications and change in eating habits are mandatory to increase the power of Ayurvedic treatment of dry eyes.
